Why Won’t My Cat Drink Water? ??
\n\n
Hey there, fellow cat parents! Didi herewell, actually, it’s me, Didi’s human, writing this. But Didi is supervising from his favorite spot on the windowsill, so you know this is legit ?
\n\n
Let me tell you a story. When I first brought Didi home, I noticed he barely touched his water bowl. I’d refill it every morning, and by evening, it looked untouched. I got worriedcats need water just like we do, and dehydration can lead to serious issues like kidney problems and urinary tract infections.
\n\n
So I did what any obsessed cat parent would do: I went on a mission to get Didi hydrated. Here’s what worked for us, and what might work for your cat too!
\n\n
1. Get a Cat Water Fountain ?
\n
This was a game-changer. Cats are naturally drawn to running waterin the wild, still water is more likely to be contaminated. Didi went from ignoring his bowl to spending 5 minutes at a time drinking from his fountain. The constant circulation also keeps the water fresh and cool. Best investment ever!
\n\n
2. Place Water Bowls Strategically
\n
Cats can be lazy (shocking, I know). If their water is too far from their favorite napping spot, they just won’t bother. I placed three water stations around the house: one in the kitchen, one in the living room, and one in the bedroom. Didi’s intake doubled instantly.
\n\n
3. Switch to Wet Food ?
\n
Dry food contains only about 10% water, while wet food is around 75-80%. Simply adding a can of wet food to Didi’s daily routine made a huge difference. I mix a spoonful of warm water into his wet food toosneaky hydration!
\n\n
4. Try Different Bowl Materials
\n
Didi hated plastic bowls. Turns out, many cats dothey can absorb odors and cause “cat acne” on their chins. We switched to stainless steel and ceramic bowls, and suddenly water was way more interesting.
\n\n
If your cat still isn’t drinking enough despite trying these tips, check with your vet. But in most cases, a little creativity goes a long way. Didi now drinks like a champ, and his vet visits have been smooth sailing ever since ?
