People think cats are lazy. Sleep all day, do nothing.
Technically true. But also not.
Let me walk you through a typical day with Didi.
—
## 5:45am – Wake-Up Call
Didi has an internal alarm. Every morning, same time. She sits on my chest and stares until I open my eyes.
If I ignore her:
– Level 1: Staring
– Level 2: Head-butting my chin
– Level 3: Walking across my face
– Level 4: Meowing directly into my ear
I’m usually awake by Level 2.
—
## 6:00am – Breakfast
The routine is precise:
1. I put food in bowl
2. She ignores it for 5 minutes
3. She eats exactly half
4. She walks away
5. She returns 20 minutes later to finish
Every. Single. Day.
—
## 10:00am – Morning Nap
She moves to her cat tree. Flops dramatically. Sleeps for 2-3 hours.
This isn’t just sleeping. It’s an art form. Legs extended, paw covering eyes, tail wrapped around.
I’ve taken photos. Many photos.
—
## 1:00pm – The Zoomies
Nap ends. Energy arrives. Suddenly she’s running laps.
Up the cat tree. Down the cat tree. Under the couch. Over the couch. Into the bedroom. Back to living room.
No reason. No destination. Just… running.
—
## 3:00pm – Supervision Shift
I work from home. Around 3pm, Didi decides she needs to supervise.
She jumps on my desk. Sits on my keyboard. Looks at my screen. Judging my emails.
If I push her aside, she returns 5 minutes later. This cycle continues until I give her attention.
Usually I end up typing with one hand while petting her with the other.
—
## 8:00pm – Playtime
I grab her wand toy. She transforms from sleepy cat to apex predator.
Flying leaps. Full-body commitment. The determination in her eyes.
Ten minutes of intense play. Then she walks away mid-game. Done.
—
## 11:00pm – Pre-Bedtime Patrol
Before sleep, Didi does a final walk-through of the apartment. Checking every room. Sniffing corners. Security inspection complete, she returns to my pillow.
—
## 12:00am – Sleep (Sort of)
She falls asleep on my pillow. I try to claim some space.
Sometimes I succeed. Sometimes she pushes my head off.
Either way, we both eventually sleep.
And tomorrow, 5:45am, the whole cycle repeats.

Cats sleep a lot. But between the naps? There’s a lot happening.
A whole life, actually.
