Best Cat Litter for Odor Control: Tried and Tested

Let’s be honest. Litter boxes stink.

But some litters handle it better than others. WAY better.

I’ve gone through maybe 15 different types. Clay, crystal, pine, wheat… Here’s what actually works.

## Clay Litters

### Dr. Elsey’s Ultra

The gold standard. Clumps hard, controls odor for days, minimal dust.

This is my go-to. Nothing else compares.

### Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal

Also solid. Baking soda helps with odor.

Slightly pricier but easier to find in stores.

### Tidy Cats

Everywhere, cheap, fine. Not amazing, not terrible.

The scented versions are too strong for me.

## Alternative Litters

### World’s Best (Corn-based)

Flushable, which is convenient. Odor control is okay but not as good as clay.

Some cats don’t like the texture.

### Feline Pine (Pine pellets)

Cheap and natural. But tracking is awful and odor control is just okay.

Better for people with one cat.

### PrettyLitter (Crystal)

Changes color to show health issues – cool feature.

But $22/month for one cat and doesn’t clump well. Not worth it for me.

## What I Use

Dr. Elsey’s Ultra in one box, Arm & Hammer in the other.

Two cats, two boxes. My apartment smells like… nothing. Perfect.

## Tips That Matter

No matter what litter:

1. Scoop EVERY DAY. Non-negotiable.
2. Use a covered box – helps contain smell.
3. Replace entirely every 2-3 weeks.
4. Don’t overfill – 2-3 inches is enough.

## Bottom Line

For odor control, Dr. Elsey’s Ultra is unbeatable.

Not fancy, not “natural,” but it works.
