🐱 Maine Coon Personality: Why They Call It the Gentle Giant

If you’ve ever seen a Maine Coon in person, you know exactly why they call it “the gentle giant.” ? These cats are MASSIVE Didi’s cousin Oliver is a Maine Coon and he literally dwarfs my British Shorthair. But here’s the thing: they’re the sweetest giants you’ll ever meet.\n\nLet me start with the size. Male Maine Coons can weigh 13-18 pounds (sometimes more!). Oliver tips the scales at 17 pounds of pure floof and love. When he visits, he walks around like he owns the place and honestly, he kind of does. But despite his size, he’s never once been aggressive or rough. That’s the Maine Coon way.\n\nWhat makes them special is their personality mix. They’re like a dog trapped in a cat’s body. Oliver follows his human everywhere bathroom, kitchen, bed, you name it. He plays fetch (yes, actual fetch!), comes when called, and even walks on a leash without any drama. He’s the kind of cat you can take on a hiking trip.\n\nMaine Coons are also incredibly gentle with kids and other pets. Oliver lets my niece carry him around like a sack of potatoes, and he just… accepts it. He wags his tail (yes, they do that) and purrs like a motorboat.\n\nOne of the funniest things about Maine Coons is their chirping. They don’t meow like regular cats they make these adorable trilling sounds, almost like a bird. Oliver greets me with chirps every time I visit.\n\nThe downside? Grooming is a full-time job. That thick, shaggy coat needs brushing at least 3-4 times a week, especially during shedding season. And they drool when they’re happy Oliver leaves little drool puddles on the couch ?\n\nOverall, if you want a big, fluffy, dog-like cat with a heart of gold, a Maine Coon is your best bet. They’re loyal, social, and surprisingly trainable. Just clear some space on your lap they don’t realize they’re not lap-sized anymore!\n\nWould you ever get a Maine Coon? Let me know! ?
